Sometimes through the course of watching a young athlete growing up, those around them know that person is just destined to play past high school.
Jason Maxwell is one of those.
His signing with Bryan College was the culmination of 18 years of having baseball as part of his life.
Bryan College is a Christian college located in Dayton, Tennessee. The Lions compete in the NAIA in the Appalachian Athletic Conference. Bryan ended its season at 41-17 this season and made it to the opening round of the NAIA national tournament.
Maxwell talked about what led him to choose Bryan.
“I chose Bryan College because it is a great school, and I feel like it will be a good fit for me,” he said. “They have great academics there, and they also have a great baseball program. I feel like I will be able to learn a lot there and grow as a baseball player.”
This past season with the Warriors, Maxwell led the team in hitting. He would finish tops in average (.392), on-base percentage (.479), slugging (.671), hits (31), home runs (3), and runs batted in (27). Maxwell would also pitch for the Warriors this season and lead the team in saves with three. He would give up one earned run on the season and struck out eight batters.
Maxwell also talked about his goals for college.
“My goals in college are to do both great in the classroom and on the baseball field,” he said. “I would also like to be a great teammate, player, and student.”
Warriors’ head coach Shaun Floyd commented on Maxwell’s signing.
“Jason is a good kid that has worked extremely hard,” said Floyd. “He deserves this opportunity, and I’m so proud of him and excited for him to get this chance. He has unbelievably quick hands at the plate and has worked hard on his pitching command. Bryan College is lucky to get him. I’m excited to see what the future holds for him.”
Maxwell is the second Warrior baseball player to sign with Bryan College this summer. Maverick Jennings will also be joining Maxwell at Bryan College in the fall. Maxwell and Jennings will also have another familiar face on campus when they attend this fall. Deandra Luna is a member of the Lady Lions basketball team.
