On Oct. 15, open enrollment officially begins for 2018 Medicare participants, and help is available for residents in the Upper Cumberland.
The Upper Cumberland Area Agency on Aging and Disability provides assistance to those in need of help or have questions about the open enrollment process and available plans. This service is available to residents in the Upper Cumberland region and is being provided free of charge.
Medicare open enrollment for the 2018 period opens on Oct. 15 and will close on Dec. 7. During this time period, Medicare beneficiaries who are already enrolled can make changes to their plans.
The staff at UCAAAD, which is a division of Upper Cumberland Development District, as well as volunteers, are trained to provide free, unbiased counseling and advice for those seeking assistance with making changes to their Medicare plans.
It is recommended that Medicare beneficiaries take this opportunity to review and compare the various plans and coverage options available for the 2018 period. All Medicare health plans and Part D prescription plans were officially released Oct. 1.
UCAAAD staff can help those seeking assistance with plan comparisons and provide detailed information about available options to each eligible Medicare beneficiary. Those seeking help and information can contact the toll-free State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) line at 1-877-801-0044.
Throughout the open enrollment period, UCAAAD staff and volunteers will be providing Medicare counseling at various locations throughout the Upper Cumberland.
In White County, an event will be 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m., Oct. 31, at the White County Senior Center. In Van Buren County, an event will be 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Nov. 17, at Burritt Memorial Library.
Numerous events are scheduled in each county in the Upper Cumberland region. A full list of appointment times and locations can be found at www.ucdd.org, at www.facebook/ucddconnect or by calling the toll free SHIP line at 1-877-801-0044.
