Michael Erwin Goodwin, 70, of Nashville, formerly of Sparta, passed Jan. 4, 2019, at Signature Health Care of Putnam County.
Mr. Goodwin was born Sept. 24, 1948, in Covina, California, to Herbert Miller Goodwin and Linnie Erwin Goodwin.
He had a work career that spanned from working at the family grocery, Goodwin’s Store, at Baker’s Crossroads, to Nissan and later UPS. When he was not working, he enjoyed playing guitar and writing music. Mr. Goodwin served his country in the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include his son Neil Goodwin and wife Rhonda, of Sparta; daughter, Jenny Goodwin Thacker and husband Chris, of Cookeville; grandchildren, Adrian Williams, Drew Thacker, Drake Thacker; two brothers, Joel Goodwin and wife Virginia, of Mt. Juliet, Bruce Goodwin and wife Ruth Ann, of Reston, Virginia; niece, Dana Freeman; and nephews, David Goodwin, Chris Goodwin, and Matt Goodwin
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Jan. 9, 2019, at Hunter Funeral Home. Dr. Jason Groe will officiate. Burial will follow in Saylors Cemetery, with full military honors presented by the Veterans’ Honor Guard. The family will receive friends 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Jan. 9, at the funeral home.
