A national auction held by the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, a foundation to benefit their mission to keep pilots safe and safeguard the future of general aviation, recently awarded a flight from the Upper Cumberland Regional Airport in Sparta to the highest bidder with country star Aaron Tippin in his World War II era T-6 Texan airplane.
Mike Bush and Karen Woodford of Suwanne, Ga. won the Night for Flight Auction with their bid of nearly $3,000 on Oct. 13. They traveled to Sparta on Nov. 16 to take the once-in-a-lifetime experience of a flight with Tippin.
Bush enjoyed a flight over the countryside with Tippin, before he and Woodford joined Tippin for lunch.
The couple was thrilled with their experience, and White County, telling airport manager Jim Kmet, “[We] can’t say enough good things about our visit to your airport, the facilities and the friendly people. You all made us feel right at home.”
