Speculation has been swirling for months as to what kind of business is being constructed at 194 Churchill Dr., in Sparta. Finally it has been released that it will be a burger bar named “Frank’s.”
According to Diana Del Toro, Frank’s wife, her husband has always wanted to own a burger restaurant and is now seeing his dream come to fruition.
Frank and Diana Del Toro moved to Sparta 15 years ago from Port St. Lucie, Florida, looking to get into the real estate market in the Upper Cumberland. Both have experience operating businesses. Frank Del Toro recently sold a successful security guard business, while Diana owns AFEEA Staffing.
“We have always invested here,” said Diana Del Toro. “We came up to build a summer home and just stayed.”
Diana Del Toro stated there are only two restaurants that serve beer, in Sparta, and they intend to have something a little different – a cozier atmosphere where everyone knows each other. She went on to explain they plan on keeping it a quiet place and to have the doors closed during the week by 9 p.m. and maybe a couple hours later than that on the weekend.
“We want to keep it family friendly,” said Diana Del Toro. “It’s not going to be a big place, but I think it is going to be perfect for this area.”
In fact, the entire restaurant, according to the Del Toros, is expected to be approximately 40 feet by 40 feet. When asked about the food they will serve, Diana Del Toro explained that, of course, hamburgers will be the main dish, but not just any hamburgers.
“There is a restaurant that we really like, in Murfreesboro,” she said. “Little Frankie gets a burger with a slice of turkey and a pickle, they now call it the Frankie burger.”
Diana Del Toro says they want to cater to everyone’s tastes in burgers as well. Not only that, she said there will be days when they serve special dishes, such as Cuban cuisine, and those dishes will be announced on the menu.
When asked what took so long to build it in the two years since the ground had been broken for the restaurant, Diana Del Toro explained there was just so much going on at the time, with her trying to start her own business and traveling to open satellite offices, while also dealing with a diagnosis of cancer for a second time, that she could not put the time in it like it needed, but they never gave up on the restaurant.
“I said, let’s open up these other offices and get everything situated, and then we can move full speed ahead,” said Diana Del Toro. “I told [Frank] we’ll start in 2018, and sure enough that’s how it worked out.”
The Del Toros said to be on the lookout for “Frank’s” to be open in spring 2019. They expressed they look forward to seeing all of their old friends at the restaurant as well as making new friends.
