Garing, a New York native, came to Tennessee five years ago with the intent of building a vacation home, which ended up being his permanent one.
He held such an appreciation for the area, that by the time their home was completed, he and his family decided to stay and build their Country Store. “I wanted to be a part of the community,” said Garing, “and this is a nice place and I’m proud to be here.”
That was four years ago, and within the last six months, his County Store has been transformed into the New York Grill, an extraordinary sports grill and family restaurant, which offers a wide variety of foods, all very pleasing to the pallet.
The New York Grill is not a fast food restaurant. All food is cooked to order, and it is an overwhelming success. They offer a diverse menu which includes hot, grilled and cold sandwiches, pasta, wings and hot dogs. But, it doesn’t stop there. For seafood lovers, they offer such things as jumbo shrimp cocktail, steamed clams, and crab claws.
And for those customers who have a taste for something a little different, they serve frog legs.
With sports memorabilia, a big screen digital television and three additional TV’s, Garing offers sports fans and families alike, the opportunity to experience an exceptional meal, be entertained and enjoy the restaurant and what he has to offer.
The New York Grill can accommodate more than 100 customers very comfortably and a spacious porch is also offered to those customers who want to relax and just take in the scenery.
They can accommodate banquets and parties, as well as, offer catering services.
They also serve a variety of appetizers such as Italian stuffed mushrooms and stuffed cherry peppers in addition to delicious desserts such as New York cheese cake, Friazo ice cream and canoli.
Garing is not in this venture alone. His three children Scottie, Crystal and Lynn, are almost as much a part of the restaurant as he is, making it a family involved business.
“Everyone does everything,” said Crystal. “It’s a team effort.”
Working as a unit, they are all dedicated to providing excellent customer service, superb food and making their customers feel at home. “Treating people right, that’s what it’s all about.” said Garing. “We enjoy serving people. It adds substance to your life.”
Jim Graham, of Cookeville, one of Garing’s customers said, “You can’t buy food like this unless you go to New York. It’s either that or Rock Island. It’s a family operated business and they care about their customers.”
Graham, who has been a customer for approximately three years, has brought several friends to the New York Grill and makes referrals. “We tell everyone about it.” he said.
The Country Store remains a part of the New York Grill. Deli meats are approved by the American Heart Association and are available at the counter. For an added convenience, other grocery items are available.
The New York Grill’s business hours are 11a.m.-8 p.m. Wed.-Thur., 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Fri.-Sat. and 12 noon-6 p.m. Sun. To accommodate sports fans, the New York Grill will currently be open for Monday night football games, 7 p.m.-12 midnight. Their telephone number is 931-686-3535. Take Memorial Highway
toward Rock Island, and they are located on the left, approximately nine miles out of Sparta.
