A recent visitor to Fall Creek Falls State Park will be taking back a few unwanted souvenirs to his home in New York. He will have a few scars from his incident that required an ambulance transport for follow up care.

During a routine drive through the park, FCF Manager Jacob Young approached a scene of individuals, with at least one probable injury. A 23-year-old male was sitting on the ground with injuries related to a fall while riding a skateboard down an inclined roadway. Per the individual’s account of the incident, the speed of the ride increased rapidly and beyond his ability to maintain his balance. Initial assessment and treatment were provided by Young and Brian Bricker, of Piney Fire Department. Transport to Erlanger Hospital, in Bledsoe County, was provided by Van Buren County Emergency Medical Service because of the nature of the injury.

There are many things to enjoy at Fall Creek Falls Park, but accidents do happen.

“We have about three to five medical calls in the park every day,” explained Young. “That’s something that most people don’t think about that rangers do.”
