A manhunt continues as of 9:45 a.m., Friday, Aug. 22, for two of three suspects who were reportedly involved in a vehicle pursuit with Tennessee Highway Patrol on Thursday.
The incident began when Trooper Michael Loftis attempted to pull over a black extended cab 2002 Ford F-150 pickup for following another vehicle too closely near mile marker 287 on I-40. The pursuit continued down I-40 and ended at Hampton’s Crossroads, in White County, when the truck ran into the side of the building at Herron’s Auto Sales. Authorities found ammunition for various weapons in the wrecked pickup, but no guns were recovered.
Reports later verified the vehicle, which had Missouri tags, had been stolen.
The 17-year-old driver of the vehicle was captured at 4:20 p.m. Thursday. White County Sheriff Department reported the juvenile was taken into custody in the parking lot of Hampton’s Crossroads Baptist Church. However, the other two occupants have not been apprehended. All three men are reportedly from Missouri.
One alleged suspect, Kirk Douglas Fincher, is believed to have left the area in a gold 1997 Toyota Avalon that was reportedly stolen from a nearby residence. Fincher was released from a Missouri prison in January 2008 after serving a 17-year sentence for the homicide of a police officer. According to THP officials, this subject may be en route to Myrtle Beach, S.C. According to THP, the third suspect, Nicklas Hickson, could still be in the White County area.
On Thursday night, Sheriff Oddie Shoupe initiated a “reverse 9-1-1” call to warn residents of the situation. A “reverse 9-1-1” is where calls are sent to specified homes to advise residents of an emergency situation in their area. This is the first time the process has been used by White County E-911.
Several area agencies have been involved in the search, including a THP helicopter and K-9 units.
More details will be available as soon as possible.
