Opal Joy Black

Opal Joy Black, 92, passed away Jan. 2, 2019, at NHC Healthecare of Smithville.
Mrs. Black was born Dec. 10, 1926, in McKenzie, Tennessee, to Edith Ethel Horne and Homer Lee Horne.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Lloyd Black Sr.; son, William Lloyd Black Jr.; two sisters; and one brother.
Survivors include two daughters, Melanie (David) West, of Asheville, North Carolina, Beth (Craig) Gibson, of Waynesville, North Carolina; two sons, Greg (Lynn) Black, of Asheville, North Carolina, Andy (Sylvia) Black, of Smithville; daughter in-law, Debra Black, of Smithville; grandchildren, Winnette (Stan) Bevis, Heather (Doug) Hennessee, Robbie (Jessica) Black, Jason (Danielle) Black, Chris (Liz) Black, Katie (Chad) Holby, Kiffin West and Raven, Craig Gibson Jr.; and great-grandchildren, Taylor, Morgan, Drew, Nate, Aidan, Chris, Anna, and Bella.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m., Jan. 6, 2019, at Thurman Funeral Home, with burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Jan. 6, at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Robbie Black, Jason Black, Chris Black, Craig Gibson Jr., Drew Bevis, and Craig Gibson Sr.
Honorary pallbearers are Kiffin West, Stan Bevis, Aidan Black, Nate Bevis, Chad Holby, Chris Thrower, and Doug Hennessee.
Thurman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
