Oscar Waymon Young Jr., 77, of Sparta, passed away March 29, 2019, at TriStar Centennial Hospital, in Nashville.
Oscar “Junior” was born May 31, 1941, in the Indian Mound Community of DeKalb County, to Oscar Waymon and Ollie Mae Young.
Junior and his late wife, Brassie, were owners of White County Truck and Trailer Parts of Sparta.
When he was not working or spending time with his family, he was on the greens at Sparta Country Club, or you could find him watching westerns, on TV. He enjoyed watching all Tennessee Vols sports.
He had been a member of Bear Cove Baptist Church for over 40 years and was a member of Masonic Lodge 99 of Sparta where he was a former master.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Brassie Young; four brothers, Calbert Young, Barnett Young, Harold Young, Carl Young; and two sisters, Clayton Cope and Ruth Taylor.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Kim Young, of Sparta; granddaughter, Maelybeth Young, of Sparta, who held the strings to his heart; fur baby, Raffey; sisters, Edmonda Stephens, Dora (Dan) Cummings, of Sparta; sister-in-law, Nora Young, of Smithville; special sister and brother-in-law, Sylvia and Dennis Farmer, of Sparta; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins that he loved and who loved him.
Funeral service will be 5 p.m., April 2, 2019, at Bear Cove Baptist Church, with burial in the Indian Mound Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5-9 p.m., April 1, and noon-5 p.m., April 2, at the church. Frank Randolph, Cary Hughes, and Johnny Adcock will officiate.
