Brownie Lee Madewell, 88, of Cookeville, passed away May 27, 2002, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center Hospital.
Madewell was born June 17, 1913, in White County, to George Madewell and Mattie Nash Morgan.
She was a charter member of Wilhite Baptist Church and a seamstress for Wilson Sporting Goods.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roosevelt Madewell; her parents; one son, Kenneth Ray Madewell; one brother, Sam Morgan; and one sister, Gladys Walker.

Mary Donavee Harris Puckett, 67, of Sparta, passed away June 3, 2002, at White County Community Hospital.
Puckett was born April 4, 1935, in Michigan, to Harvey Edgar and Katherine Elrod Harris.
She was a factory worker.
Puckett was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Darnell Harris.
Survivors include her husband, Morris Lee Puckett of Sparta; two daughters and one son-in-law, Nena and Dan Daily of Kansas City, Kan. and Tina Puckett of Sparta; three grandchildren, Aaron Puckett, Kaitlin Daily and Samuel Daily; and three sisters, Alvaree Holland, Hazel Felts and Louise Henderson all of Sparta.

Bradley was born Feb. 19, 1919, in White County, to Thomas Walter and Mattie Sims Wheeler Bradley.
He was a farmer.

Harold Davis, 84, of Sparta, passed away May 29, 2002 at White County
community Hospital.
Harold was born July 8, 2002 in White County to Andy and Ethel Hollandsworth Davis.
He served in the U.S. Army in World War II and was a retired factory worker.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; one sister, Anna Ruth Batman; one brother, Carl B. Davis.

An ordinary day of fun and games turned into a lesson in life about truth and honesty for one White County boy, as he discovered how integrity is not always the easy path to take.
Joshua Strickland, 12, was recently spending a warm, spring day at South Carter Street Park, riding his bicycle with his younger brother and a friend. The trio decided to ride over to North Carter Street on the trail under the bridge.

Airport increases security

Airport board members discussed the importance of an emergency and security plan at the airport during a recent Upper Cumberland Regional Airport Board meeting held on June 3. The Federal Bureau of Investigation had recently contacted the airport and advised them to step up their security.
Board members in attendance were Chairman Rick Bellar, Secretary/Treasurer Allen Ray, Terry Howard, Administrative Assistant to the Board Melissa Graham, Steve Gregory and Fixed Base Operator Randy Kennedy.
Several topics of discussion were: airport security, damage to a keypad, duties of an FBO, hanger rents and how the rent is being kept up to date.

Blaze destroys Cass residence

Fire roared through the home of Willard and Hubert Cass at 2127 Hodges Bridge Road earlier this week. The home was a total loss.
The Emergency 911 Center dispatched two districts to the structure fire at approximately 9:05 p.m., Monday. According to Doyle Asst. Chief Jimmy Savage, the end of the home was fully engulfed in flames when firemen arrived. There were eight firemen and five explorers from Doyle Volunteer Fire Dept. and nine firemen from Hickory Valley Volunteer Fire Dept. on the scene.

West was born Dec. 16, 1923, in Cumberland County, to James Todd and Sallie Ann Stinnett West.
