Mrs. Gamble was born Feb. 24, 1932.

Barbara Ann Rider, 68, of Sparta, passed away May 22, 2009, at White County Community Hospital.

Ms. Rider was born Oct. 8, 1940, and was the daughter of the late Walter and Miranda King Brubaker.
She was an employee of the St. Peters Newspaper.
The family has chosen cremation. No service is planned at this time.

Harold Evans

In honor and remembrance of service to his country.

Harold Evans, 79, of Cookeville, passed away May 21, 2009, at this residence, in Cookeville.

Mr. Evans was born Jan. 19, 1930, in Brooklyn N.J., to Morris and Eva Levine Evans.
He had served in the U.S. Navy. Follow his military service he spent more than 40 years in the garment business. He continued to pursue numerous other business interests until his death.
Mr. Evans was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Dave and Betty Evans, and two sisters, Mildred Marlowe and Rosalind Foreman.

As the state track and field meet comes to an end, that officially completes another school year of sports in White County.
It’s no secret that my busiest time of the year is from September to May. Most of the summer months are spent for me with Little League and following around the high school teams in their preparation for the coming season.

Landfill discussion continues at meeting

Information. John Tony, former landfill employee, addresses members of the Solid Waste Committee about alleged problems at the landfill.

County commissioners listened to one of their fellow board members Monday night as he expressed his concerns about the future of White County’s landfill and the lack of recognition for the Solid Waste Committee.
Commissioner Milton Herren, who also serves as chairman of the Solid Waste Committee, told about an April 27, 2009, meeting called by Commission Chairman Terry Alley.

Motlow of Sparta expanding facility

Motlow in Sparta will soon be increasing the size of its facility less two years after the institution officially opened its doors to those who are seeking to further their education.
Donny Haley, director of White County schools, said on Wednesday approximately 1,200 square feet will be added to the existing site, which includes one classroom, a set of bathrooms and a conference room. Haley said the addition would cost roughly $200,000. The classroom is expected to accommodate approximately 80 students because of the manner in which classes are scheduled.

Christopher Scott Cantrell, 37, of Doyle, passed away May 16, 2009, at White County Community Hospital.
Mr. Cantrell was born March 17, 1972, in Dublin, Ga., to Deborah Aldridge and N.J. Cantrell Sr.
Survivors include his daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Pappas, of Arizona; mother, Deborah Cantrell, of Tampa, Fla.; sister, Shannon Witherington,  of Clarksville.; and aunt, Nancy Aldridge, of Doyle.
Graveside service will be 3 p.m., May 19, 2009, at Shady Grove Cemetery, in Morrison. John Murphy will officiate.
Hunter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Clara Williams Bradley, 94, of Sparta, passed away May 20, 2009, at White County Community Hospital.
Mrs. Bradley was born Oct. 28, 1914, in Sparta, to John and Amy Hudgins Williams.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Noah Bradley; sisters, Amy Evelyn Williams, Sue Katherine (Susie) Williams, Frances Brock; and one brother, Frank C. Williams.
Mrs. Bradley had been a beautician and a member of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her niece, Amy Sue Tollison and husband Buck, of Sparta; nephews, Charles Brock and wife Charlene, James Brock and wife Janice, all of Ohio; and caretakers, Edward Tollison and daughter Destiny, Julie Locke, all of Sparta.… Read More

Over 100 athletes get physicals completed
