Traffic stop led to several arrests

Two were arrested on drug charges after authorities stopped a vehicle on Will Thompson Road because the driver had a suspended license.
At approximately 1:15 p.m., Dec. 25, 2001, Deputy Connor Wardlaw of the White County Sheriff’s Department stopped a vehicle on Will Thompson Road because he had prior knowledge of the driver, Charles James Earl Davis, 18, not having a drivers license. According to the report, a license check on Davis did reveal his license was suspended.

Conrad Clouse

Conrad Clouse, 87, of Sparta, passed away Dec. 24, 2001.
Clouse was born April 14, 1914, in White County, to Wesley Clouse and Margaret Ann Williams Clouse.
He attended Central Church of Christ and was a plumber.
Clouse was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Verna Clouse; two daughters, Donna Jackson of Chattanooga and Sharon Wilhite of Sparta; one sister, Juanita Bass of Detroit, Mich.; three grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Dec. 27, 2001, at the chapel of Thurman Funeral Home with burial in Highland Cemetery. Bro. Don Burns will officiate.

Ronnie Leslie Minnear, 47, of Sparta, passed away Dec. 23, 2001.
Minnear was born April 24, 1954, to James Leslie (Zuke) and Gertie Jane Rich Minnear.
He was a logger.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Dale Austin Minnear of Sparta; one daughter, Kelly Nichole Minnear of Sparta; one son, Austin Kyle Minnear of Sparta; parents, James Leslie (Zuke) and Gertie Jane Rich Minnear of Sparta; one brother, David Wayne Minnear of Sparta; one sister, Deborah Sue Redmond of Sparta; and grandmother, Nannie Mae Rich of Sparta.

Bensing was born March 7, 1943, in Findlay, Ohio, to Lester and Agnes Taylor Bensing.

Sparta woman charged in toy theft in Warren County

The first of what police anticipate could be several warrants has been taken against a Sparta woman for the theft of toys from Warren County Rescue Squad’s toy drive.
The suspect, Millicent B. Gamble, was charged Friday with theft for allegedly stealing toys from the rescue squad’s collection trailer on the morning of Nov. 25. The theft was one of a series from the collection trailer, which lawmen believe is the work of separate individuals.

Auld Lang Syne, the traditional New Year’s Eve song, is sung at the stroke of mid-night across countless global time lines.
Partial credit goes to Scottish poet Robert Burns whose lyrics for the song
were published in 1796, after his death.
Some historians believe early folk variations of the song inspired Burns to pen the lyrics known today, for the phrase “auld lang syne” translates literally as “old long ago,” or “the good old days.”
Burns work bears a striking resemblance to a ballad by an earlier poet, Sir Robert Ayton (1570-1638) which begins:
