Hoyte Houston Fisher, 72, of Sparta, passed away April 6, 2002, at Life Care Center of Sparta.
Fisher was born May 30, 1929, in White County, to John Jefferson and Venia Thelma Sparkman Fisher.
He had been a grocery store clerk.
Fisher was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Eldred Fisher and Isaac Fisher; and one sister, Edna Glenn.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and James Brymer of Sparta; one son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Tammy Fisher of Sparta; and three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Betty Fisher, Shirley and Don Johnson and Katie and Charles Hawkins all of Sparta.

NHC HealthCare receives Four Star Excellence certification

NHC HealthCare in Sparta recently received the Four Star Excellence Certification presented by the National HealthCare Corporation at their annual management conference in Desert Springs, Calif., according to a recent press release.
Four Star Excellence certification recognizes outstanding performances from the staff of the center, and publicly recognizes Sparta’s NHC HealthCare as one of the corporation’s best.
The center must attain high scores in NHC’s own survey process, which includes a customer satisfaction index, consumer view rating and several patient care components.
In addition, the center must receive a high score on their state survey.

City of Sparta seeks county assistance in fire truck purchase

A discussion about rental fees for the unmanned fire stations on Polk Street and Bockman Way during the meeting of the Sparta Board of Mayor and Aldermen on Thursday led to a dialogue of requesting the county government to fund a fire truck for the City of Sparta.
“I suggest we ask the county if it’s our turn for a fire truck and ask them for one,” said Aldermen Tommy Pedigo.
Pedigo was referring to the rotation plan the county has attempted to follow in keeping the nine county volunteer fire departments updated with the latest fire fighting equipment.

Dessert and Debate raised over $1,800

Paul Bailey, candidate for state senator, attempted to entice his new acquaintance with the wide array of pastries and cakes at the Dessert and Debate on Friday. All proceeds were designated for Project Graduation.

McMillen rescued from Rainbow Bluff

A White County man, David McMillen, 26, was rescued from the water falls area of Rainbow Bluff on Sunday afternoon. The bluff was located near Geers Lake Road on Bon Air Mountain. According to authorities, McMillen and several friends were exploring the area when he fell off the bluff. Rescue squad members, firefighters, law enforcement and emergency personnel worked together to bring McMillen to safety.
Authorities entered the woods at approximately 4 p.m. and traveled about half a mile on a path to their destination.
Some were in vehicles, while others hiked the trail. An ambulance was on location where they could reach their supplies. Authorities … CONTINUED

Georgia Vandergriff, 90, of Spencer, passed away March 31, 2002, at White County Community Hospital.
Vandergriff was born April 30, 1911, in Van Buren County, to John Bouldin and Lou Payne Bouldin.
Vandergriff attended Highland Church of Christ and was retired from Rock Textile Mills.
Vandergriff was preceded in death by one son, J.L. Bouldin; one granddaughter, Sherry Anne Bouldin Cope; one sister, Fannie Bouldin; and five brothers, Elgar Bouldin, Clyde Bouldin, Ivory Bouldin, Lloyd Bouldin and Herman Bouldin.

Willie S. Blaylock, 79, of Michigan, passed away Jan. 3, 2002.
Blaylock was born Nov. 19, 1932, to Mary and John Blaylock.
He was retired from Chrysler.
Blaylock was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings.
Survivors include one daughter, Marianne Nye; two sons, William Blaylock and Michael Blaylock; two brothers, James C. Blaylock and Herman Blaylock; two sisters-in-law; several cousins; and several nieces and nephews; seven grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
A celebration of Blaylock’s life will be at the Watering Hole in Eastland at 4 p.m., April 6, 2002.

Shelie Paul Anderson, 69, passed away April 1, 2002, at VA Hospital in Nashville.
Anderson was born May 22, 1932, in Putnam County, to Dillard Anderson and Clauda Martin Anderson.
He attended a Church of Christ and had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. Anderson was a carpenter.
Anderson was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Wallace Anderson and Robert Anderson; and two sisters, Wellaedea Frank and Onadee Anderson.

Willie Etta (Bill) Cantrell Stupak, 69, passed away March 29, 2002.
She was a dance instructor for Arthur Murray Dance Studios during the 1950’s.
Survivors include her husband, Joe Stupak; two brothers, J.C. Cantrell and William Cantrell; and one sister, Ellen Green.
Services were held at 10 a.m., April 2, 2002, at Andrew Price United Methodist Church with burial in Fuston Cemetery in Smithville. Rev. Denman Frazer officiated.
Hibbet & Hailey Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.


Paul Dennis Palamarchuck

Paul Dennis Palamarchuck, 55, of Sparta, passed away March 31, 2002, at his residence.
Palamarchuck was born July 24, 1946, in St. Marys, Pa., to Paul and Lydia Palamarchuck.
He served in the U.S. Navy for 27 years and was a cryptologist.
Palamarchuck was preceded in death by his mother and his step mother, Margaret Ann Palamarchuck.
Survivors include his wife, Monica L. Palamarchuck of Sparta; one daughter, Joanne Zepp of Severn, Md.; one son and daughter-in-law, Christian and Norma Palamarchuck of Odenton, Md.; father, Paul Palamarchuck of Emporium, Pa.; two brothers, Michael Palamarchuck of Emporium, Pa. and Kevin Palamarchuck of San Antonio, Texas; and three grandchildren.
