Ruby Dianne Frasier Marion, 71, passed away peacefully Dec. 24, 2018, losing her battle with cancer.

Mrs. Marion was born July 3, 1947, in Sparta, to Ruby Ilene Bumbalough and Albert Frank Frasier.

She married Michael K. Marion, on Feb. 26, 1966, and had five children. She loved to knit, crochet, sew, read books, work in the garden, and go camping. For many years Dianne worked at White Tower, in Dayton, Ohio. After she divorced, she moved back to Sparta, Tennessee, to help with her ailing father, Albert. Alberta Maxine Blankenship Hickey

Alberta Maxine Blankenship Hickey, 88, of Pikeville, went home to Jesus, on Dec. 19, 2018.

She was born June 30, 1930.

Mrs. Hickey assumed duties of a pastor’s wife very well for over 50 years and was a lifetime member of Sampson Free Will Baptist Church.  She loved her family, flowers, enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting, traveling, cooking, feeding people, and spending time with friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie Blankenship and Ruby Frady Blankenship; sisters, Naomi Hillis, Clara Mae Jolly; and grandson-in-law, Marty Mooneyham.

David Ray Haston

David Ray Haston, born Nov. 23, 1953, to Ernest and Betty Haston, passed away peacefully, on Dec. 20, 2018, with his loving family by his side.

He is survived by his loving family: sons, David Haston (Mandy), Robert Haston (Kim); grandchildren, Hannah Haston, Leigh Ann Haston, Mackenzie Haston,  Hunter Haston, Hailey Haston; brothers, Ernie Haston (Janette), Kenneth Haston (Carolyn); sisters, Norma Jean Key (Richard), Caroline Schopieray (Jason); nephews, Nat Haston, Scott Haston, Richie Key, Chris Seibers, Josh Seibers; and niece, Robin Carrick.

Funeral service was 3 p.m., Dec. 22, 2018, at Hunter Funeral Home, in Sparta, with burial in Haston Family Cemetery.

Driver plows through cemetery

Driver of truck gets inspected by emergency officials while others assess the damage.

Headstones were toppled when the driver ran his truck through the cemetery

A lone driver of a red Dodge pick-up truck reportedly lost control of his vehicle and ran up the embankment of the cemetery at Plainview Church of Christ, on Highway 84. The driver suffered minor injuries but was allowed to go home. No more information was available at the time of this posting.

Warriorettes move into the Championship game with a buzzer beating win

After trailing by 12 heading into the fourth quarter, the Warriorettes made a huge comeback to win at the buzzer. Mia Murray hit a layup at the buzzer to give the Warriors a 61-59 win. Murray led the Warriorettes with 20 points. Gracie Dodgen also chipped in 18 points, and Kendreah Reeves added 11.

The Warriorettes will play for the championship tomorrow at 2:30 pm ET/1:30 pm CT

Warriors pick up their first win in Florida

After suffering a first round loss on Thursday afternoon, the Warriors rebounded to pick up their first win in Florida, by a final score of 67-60 over North Bullitt High School. The Warriors were led by Grant Slatten, who finished with 28 points.

The Warriors will close out the tournament tomorrow at 1:30 pm ET/12:30 CT.

DAR presents portrait to American Legion Post 99 in Sparta

Commodities distribution

Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency will hold a commodities distribution for White County, 8:30-11:30 a.m., Jan. 3, 2019, at the Women’s Building at the Fairgrounds, in Sparta.

Everyone must present a valid UCHRA commodity card to receive commodities. To sign up or reprint lost commodities cards contact your local UCHRA office.

Warriors extend their lead in the third

The Warriors offense got kick started in the third quarter as they jumped out to a 57-38 lead heading into the final quarter of play. Grant Slatten is leading the Warriors with 28 points.
