Political correctness is killing our nation

The Right Stuff – By Donald Holman
Political correctness is killing us. No, I mean it! Think, for a moment, about how many things might be different if we actually described things as they are instead of in a politely vague way.
Political correctness as defined by Wikipedia: “The term political correctness is used to describe language, policies, or measures that are intended to avoid offense or disadvantage to members of particular groups in society.” In other words, political correctness avoids accurately describing something if to do so would cause offense. When you take that thought further, political correctness avoids telling the truth about unpleasant realities in our society.
Take for instance the term “undocumented worker.” Does that REALLY describe the person so named? Is a gang member from another country really an “undocumented worker?” I am thinking “criminal illegal alien” is closer to the truth. And what about actual illegal aliens employed here? Wouldn’t the term “American job thief” more accurately describe such a person?
You see, while it is hard to have sympathy for an “American job thief” or “criminal illegal alien,” the term “undocumented worker” sounds so much more sympathetic! And that, of course, is the idea. Sympathetic terms create feelings of sympathy on the part of the public. The term “illegal alien” is the name our immigration laws applies to someone present in the United States illegally. It isn’t a term we thought up to denigrate illegals, it is simply how the law describes them.
Let’s look at another term that is sweeping the nation…”transgendered.” This term is defined as “denoting or relating to a person whose sense of personal identity does not correspond with the gender assigned to them at birth.” And it has been all the rage lately to “cure” this malady with surgery. But the latest study from Switzerland suggests this “cure” is not what it was thought to be. The first thing to realize is that one cannot “change” genders. The gender of a person is expressed in every cell of their body. One might be able to transform certain characteristics of gender, but one’s basic gender is acquired at fertilization and cannot be altered. So consider some additional information from this Swiss study.
After about 10 years of living in a transgendered state, most patients began to have mental difficulties. Their suicide rate is 20 times that of the average person. To quote an expert, Dr. McHugh: “policy makers and the media are doing no favors either to the public or the transgendered by treating their confusions as a right in need of defending rather than as a mental disorder that deserves understanding, treatment and prevention.” Dr. McHugh goes on to compare the confusion of transgenderism to the confusion an anorexic feels when, although they are very thin, they look in the mirror and think they are fat.
You see, we are as a nation refusing to deal with our problems by thinking in terms that obscure rather than describe the situation at hand. And many times, the leftists in our country then take that new description and tell those folk they are victims. In leftist terms, criminals are the victims of law enforcement. But where does that leave the true victim? The one the criminal stole from or killed?
We have a president that refuses to go along with these foolish ideas. Do you see now one of the reasons so many hate him? Regardless of the damage caused to our society, the American left cannot afford to have us looking at things as they really are, instead of through the obscuring lens of political correctness. And it is killing us as a nation! Think about “political correctness” and how far it is from reality as you go through this week, won’t you? And be careful out there on those roads!
