Region championship/substate berths all around

It was a great night for the White County and Van Buren County basketball teams in their respective region tournaments.
All four teams won their semifinal games and advanced to Saturday’s championship games. Those wins also secured a berth in the sectional tournament. The winners of the region get to host sectional games and the runner-ups have to go on the road. Girls sectional games are on Monday; boys on Tuesday.
But before the region starts the teams will compete for region titles on Saturday.
The Warriorettes (28-3) will take on Cumberland County (26-4) at Ooltewah at 5 p.m. WCHS defeated Bradley Central 64-60 in double overtime to earn the spot in the finals. Cumberland County defeated Cookeville 56-41.
The Warriors (28-3) will square off against Bradley Central (22-8) at 6:30 p.m. WCHS defeated Cookeville 66-61 to advance to the finals while Bradley rolled past Stone Memorial 49-28.
Van Buren County’s girls (28-4) fought off CSAS 64-53 and will now take on Boyd Buchanan (19-10) in the Region 3A championship. That game will top off at 5:30 p.m. at South Pittsburg. Boyd defeated Silverdale Academy 49-40 in the semifinals to earn a spot in the finals.
Van Buren County’s boys (17-15) will follow at 7 p.m. against CSAS (24-5) in the boys’ title game. Van Buren narrowly defeated Boyd Buchanan 58-56 in the semifinals. CSAS defeated Silverdale Academy 59-50.
