Robert Randal Mealer, 57, passed from this life from a sudden, on Sept. 2, 2019, at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born Nov. 5, 1961, to R. G. Mealer, who preceded him in death, and Dorris Delong Mealer who survives.
A Van Buren County native, Randal was formerly employed by Southeastern Correctional Facility and retired from Fall Creek Falls State Park. He was a past Mason; former Van Buren County Commissioner in the 4th District; a graduate of Van Buren County High School Class of 1980; an avid hunter, fisherman, and knife maker who loved the outdoors; and he was affiliated with the Church of Christ.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death a son, Ronnie Bryant; grandson, Kayden Randal Scarbrough; paternal grandparents, M. A. Mealer and Hazel Scarbrough Mealer; and maternal grandparents, John and Pauline Bouldin Delong.
Randal is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Martin Mealer; son, Thomas (Delina) Colvard and Adam Kilgore; daughter, Tina (Dean) Scarbrough; sister, Jamie (Eddie) Carter; grandchildren, Kaston Scarbrough, Ryder and MaKenna Colvard; nieces, Maygan Dakota Hickey (Emma Slatton), Brittany (Tyler) Walling (Briar and Brooke), Brianna Hickey (Cash and Lleyton Wardlaw); special friend, Dewayne Kenny; and Randal’s faithful companion, “Prime.”
Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Sept. 6, 2019, at Layne Spencer Chapel, in Spencer, with burial in Shockley Cemetery. Bro. Michael Brock will officiate. Visitation will be 4-9 p.m., Sept. 4, and 9 a.m.-9 p.m., Sept. 5, at the funeral home.
