Roy Elrod

Roy Elrod, 92, of Sparta, passed away Feb. 5, 2018, at Raintree Manor, in McMinnville.

Mr. Elrod was born Nov. 15, 1925, in White County, to Alonzo Elrod and Susie Abston Elrod. He was retired from the City of Sparta Public Works Department and served his country in World War II with the U.S. Army. Mr. Elrod loved woodworking, gardening and landscaping; however, most of all he loved his wife to whom he dedicated his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mary Bussell, Monie “Sis” Petty; and brothers, Varris Elrod, Van Elrod and Jack Dempsey Elrod.

Survivor include his wife of 64 years, Louise Hawkins Elrod; special niece and caregiver, Marie Thomas and husband Mike; and

several other nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Feb. 8, 2018, at Hunter Funeral Home, with burial will follow in Carter Cemetery. Full military honors will be presented by the Veterans’ Honor Guard. Bro. Fred Hawkins and Bro. Thomas McCulley will officiate.

The family will receive friends 5-8 p.m., Feb. 7, at the funeral home.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Hunter Funeral Home.
