Samuel “Joe” Joseph Irwin

Former Cantonment, Fla., resident, Samuel Joseph “Joe” Irwin, 80, passed away Feb. 25, 2014 at his home in Sparta.
Mr. Irwin was born Feb. 8, 1934, in Atmore, Ala., to John Calvin and Lillie Hardy Irwin.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dennis.
He graduated from J.M. Tate High School, in 1952. He married Mary Joyce Smith, on Aug. 30, 1952, in Cottage Hill. He retired from St. Regis/Champion Paper Mill, in 1997.
Mr. Irwin was active in the community including membership of the First Baptist Church of Cantonment, a former Chief of the Volunteer Fire Department, a current member of Masonic Lodge #322 and the York Rite of Florida.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Irwin; daughters, Diane Dunaway, of Milton, Fla., Joanne Irwin, of Algood; sister, Eunice Trescott, of Virginia Beach; brother, Leroy Irwin, of Tallahassee; grandchildren, Lesley and Stevyn, both of Tennessee, Angela, Amy and Amanda, all of Florida; and great-grandsons, Ethan, Trace, Trent and Parker.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m., March 1, 2014, at Fairth Chapel North, in Cantonment, Fla. Burial will take place at Little Flock Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 10 a.m., March 1, at the funeral home.
Hunter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
