Sparta Green Market welcomes Sarah Merritt and Felicity as the featured performers, 4-7 p.m., Aug. 17, at the Sparta Green Market, at Metcalf Pavilion, on Liberty Square. Felicity, from Sparta, is a popular local group known for performing classical and traditional music for many audiences in the area.

The August Green Market is at the peak growing season month for fresh vegetables, flowers, baked goods, and meats grown and produced by local farmers, growers, and chefs. The Green Market is known for its varied combination of vendors selling all local products

Sarah Merritt says we mix “fresh arrangements of jazz and folk standards with original compositions and merge skillful playing and youthful enthusiasm into an engaging performance.”

Felicity is the fourth musical group to perform in Sparta Green Market’s series featuring local musicians, songwriters, and performers.

Merritt continues, “Our group of young women has a natural, creative sound where we combine our classical training with a love of traditional music.”

Margaret Petre, event organizer, says, “Sarah Merritt and Felicity performed last year and was well received by patrons. We look forward to again hear their music on Aug. 17th. Please be generous in your support. Our patrons are encouraged to bring the family to listen to the Green Market’s unique blend of featured music, dine at Liberty Square restaurants, and shop with local farmers, bakers, and meat producers at the Green Market.”

Tennessee Shrimp Company, a new vendor at the July Market, will again have fresh, Sparta grown, large shrimp. Carla Diller and friends have fresh baked Mennonite pies, breads, and other goodies. The Pie Lady, one of the Market’s most popular vendors, has new flavors for the 2018 season and sells out quickly. Get there early for one of the Pie Lady’s fried pies.

Local vendors have for sale a wide selection of local honey, seasonal plants, animal fibers, cut flowers, vegetables, meat, fruits, and decorative gourds.

For the kids, stop in for popcorn and balloon animals by “Magic Dad” Carroll Vinson, and Dixie Rackman will be onsite face painting. Tennessee Soap Company will be there with homemade soaps, balms and other items.

Enjoy a free bluegrass concert at the Sparta Amphitheater, on Liberty Square, at 7 p.m., immediately following the Market. Sparta Green Market encourages everyone to support downtown Sparta businesses, enjoy the free entertainment, educational booths, locally grown meat, veggies, fruit, honey, flowers, eggs, and much more.

Sparta Green Market is a “Green” outing, so please bring reusable bags for produce and other goods. No smoking allowed, and please do not bring pets to the event. Market’s season runs every third Friday, May to October, rain or shine.
