Chris Howard from Life Church recently presented Sheriff Steve Page with a donation for safety equipment to use for the school resource officer program.
While White County High School and White County Middle School have both had SROs for some time, last year was the first time all White County schools had an SRO on site during all school hours. Having a resource officer on campus provides another level of security for the students and staff.
“We learned so much last year with this new SRO program,” Page said. “Capt. [Kenny] Dobson and I plan to implement other safety and educational programs into the schools this year.”
This year’s SROs are: Sgt. David Grissom (WCHS), Cpt. Kenny Dobson (WCMS), Sgt. Dustin Reels (Woodland Park), Sgt. Al Hale (Northfield), Sgt. Wade Phillips (Findlay), Sgt. Scott Odell (Doyle), Sgt. Charlie Sims (BonDeCroft), and Sgt. Steve Turpin (Cassville).
According to White County Sheriff’s Office, the board of education supplies the salaries for the resource officers, but the donation from Life Church will allow them to make improvements to the program and supply equipment and items that are not funded under the contract with the schools. “I want to thank Chris [Howard] and the members of Life Church for the generous donation to our agency and the student resource officers,” Page said. “The equipment purchased with this donation will provide more equipment to protect our students.”
