White County’s 59 registered sex offenders, who are under the supervision of Tennessee Board of Probation and Parole, have once again been notified they cannot take part in any Halloween activities or any event that is considered a fall or harvest carnival.
According to BOPP Executive Bo Irvin, public safety is the primary mission of the department during this annual observance. Each sex offender has reportedly signed a letter acknowledging he/she is prohibited from participating in Halloween activities.
The letters advise sex offenders:
•Neither they, nor anyone in their home, can answer the door to trick-or-treaters on Halloween;
•They cannot pass out candy;
•Their homes cannot be decorated for Halloween, either inside or outside;
•They cannot host Halloween parties at their homes;
•They cannot go to haunted houses, corn mazes, hay rides or any other seasonal activity;
•They cannot be at any function where children are gathered, including private residences;
•They cannot give any Halloween treats to children;
•They cannot wear costumes and
•They cannot take any child trick-or-treating.
The letter lists the aforementioned guidelines, but it also states the following. “Please keep in mind that these guidelines can also serve as a protection for you, by helping you to avoid situations in which you could be falsely accused or suspected of wrongdoing, or where some may be tempted to re-offend. The Board of Probation and Parole will be making extended announced and unannounced home visits to verify compliance.”
Below is a list of the number of sex offenders who live within a five-mile radius of the following addresses. Please note some of these areas overlap when using the five-mile radius. Also, all of the registered sex offenders have not been convicted of crimes relating to minors.
