Soccer team celebrates senior night

The White County High School soccer team honored their three senior soccer players and manager, on Thursday night. Senior members include, Jack Sanchez, Zachary Taylor, and Payton Newman.

Sherry Hickey, president of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs Highland Rim, presented White County High School soccer coach Scott Wilson with a check, on Thursday night, to help the soccer team. The GFWC has presented the soccer team with $500 this season.

The White County High School soccer team and coaches honored their three seniors at halftime of their final regular season home game on Thursday night.

Unfortunately, the Soddy Daisy Trojans played spoiler for the night. The Warriors were unable to keep pace with the Trojans falling by a final score of 4-2.

At halftime of the contest, WCHS honored their three seniors, Jack Sanchez, Zachary Taylor, and Payton Newman.

When the two district foes met earlier in the season, it was a contest dominated by the defenses as the game ended 3-0 with Soddy pulling out the win.

On Thursday, Soddy would jump out to an early 2-0 lead scoring in the first five minutes of the game, and then again with only 14 minutes left. The Warriors would have their chances to get on the scoreboard in the first half. However, they were unable to find the back of the net.

In the second half, both of the offenses would pick up their games at the 31-minute mark. Soddy Daisy would strike first with a goal to extend their lead to 3-0. However, the Warriors would answer quickly scoring two goals in less than three minutes. Senior Payton Newman would strike first at the 27-minute mark to cut the lead to 3-1. Senior Jack Sanchez would also get a senior night goal. Sanchez would follow up Newman’s goal with his own at the 25-minute mark to cut the lead to 3-2 and would give all the momentum to the Warriors. However, that’s as close as the Warriors would get. Soddy Daisy would answer back with 23:15 left in the game to push their lead to 4-2 and that would be the final.

The Warriors season would come to a close on Friday night in the first game of the district tournament. The Warriors would take on Soddy Daisy in the first round of the district tournament on Friday night. The Warriors were unable to keep pace with the Trojans as they fell by a final score of 3-1.
