The Sparta Green Market opens for the fourth season, 4-7 p.m. May 18, at Metcalf Park, across the street from Liberty Square. The Green Market in Sparta is the only downtown evening market event with produce, meat, fruit, flowers, eggs, baked goods, and entertainment.
Margaret Petre, event organizer, says, “The Sparta Green Market is unique because it brings together farmers and consumers in a venue featuring local fresh produce and entertainment for the entire family. Patrons are encouraged to bring the family, dine at Liberty Square restaurants, and visit local shops open especially for the Sparta Green Market. Look for green balloons outside each open shop.”
For the fourth season, Whitney Newport provides entertainment for the evening.
Long-time vendors Carroll Vinson, known as the Balloon Man, and Dixie Rackham, who does face painting for kids of all ages, will be there.
The Pie Lady, one of the Market’s most popular vendors, has new flavors for the 2018 season and sells out of product quickly.
Vendors who have honey, seasonal plants, animal fibers, cut flowers, vegetables, meat, fruits, decorative gourds, and baked goods are encouraged to apply for booth space by visiting the Sparta Green Market Facebook page or online. Craft vendor applications are not accepted for the 2018 season. Click here to view form.
Some products sold at farmers markets must meet state requirements. Every vendor is required to educate themselves on all rules and regulations. For more information and regulations, click here.
Enjoy a free bluegrass concert at 7 p.m., at the Sparta Amphitheater, on Liberty Square, immediately following the Market. Sparta Green Market encourages everyone to support downtown Sparta businesses, enjoy the free entertainment, educational booths, locally grown meat, veggies, fruit, honey, flowers, eggs, and much more.
Sparta Green Market is a “Green” outing, so please bring reusable bags for produce and other goods. No smoking allowed, and please do not bring pets to the event. Market’s season runs every third Friday, May-October, rain or shine.
