Sparta Stitch, Show, Share Quilt Guild is having a quilting workshop, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Aug. 18, 2018, at Sparta First United Methodist Church, 23 N. Church St., in Sparta.
Anyone, young or not-so-young, who is interested in quilting or in learning to quilt is invited to attend. We are especially encouraging young people to join us to learn a new and fun craft. Free kits for simple quilt projects will be provided. Don’t worry if you don’t know how to sew. Sewing machines will be available or you can bring your own (even if you don’t know how to use it, we’ll help), and guild members will provide individualized instruction in machine use and provide assistance with the project kits as required.
The Stitch, Show, Share Quilt Guild meets at 10 a.m., the third Saturday of each month, at Sparta First United Methodist Church. A brief meeting is held, after which members show projects they have completed and share quilting techniques, patterns, and other quilt-related subjects. Several times a year, “sew-ins” are held, also on the third Saturday of the month, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., to work on projects and share a potluck lunch.
Each year, members make comfort quilts for a charity that is decided upon by the members. In the past, we’ve taken quilts to Ronald McDonald House and a local nursing home. In even years, in May, we hold a two-day quilt show. In odd years, there is a three-day workshop/retreat for members, also in May. Throughout the year, members enjoy participating in guild “challenges” consisting of a wide variety of quilting projects.
We hope you will join us on Aug. 18 for an introduction to the art of quilting. For additional information, please call (931) 935-5657.
