State cross country berths on line Thursday

Both the White County and Van Buren County cross country teams will head to Dayton Thursday for their region meets.
The 3AAA race, which the White County team will run in, will be the first up on the day at Fort Bluff Camp. The Region 4A-AA races, which will have the Van Buren runners, are later on in the afternoon. The top three teams and the top 10 individuals earn spots in the state race.
White County will have a limited number of runners competing in the Class AAA race. Injuries and health conditions will have four WCHS runners, Nikole Pryor, Addie Hickey, Tamera Webb and Josiah Fox, having to forego the race. That leaves three WCHS runners competing.
Megan Holland, Ashton Mitchell and Jimmy Wallace will be the sole runners for WCHS in the races.
According to Coach Mark Voyles, the race is shaping up as a tough one.
“I think the region is a little tougher this year with the new additions. We lost Coffee County and Stone Memorial replaced them. Coffee County didn’t have a cross country team so we effectively just added runners. That automatically makes it tougher. I think Megan has a good chance to qualify. Going into the race, she is ranked seventh in the region. She ran a great race at the MSCCA getting ready for this. All our runners just have to go out and run a solid race and try to set new personal marks. We are short handed with all the injuries, but we’ll just see what happens from there.”
The state cross country races will be Saturday, November 2nd, at the Steeplechase course in Nashville.
