The White County High School Student Council has once again come through for the needy with food donations, just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday.
The council conducted a food drive, sponsoring and organizing the effort, while encouraging their fellow students to pitch in with non-perishable food items.
The student body responded with an overwhelming gift of food items, all slated to go to the Help Center in Sparta.
High school principal Charles Dycus explained the drive has been a part of the council activities for several years, and once again, this year’s effort was a great success.
The food consisted of almost 2,500 items, gathered in only one and one-half weeks of effort from the high school students.
“We understood the Help Center was low on food,” Dycus stated, “so we decided to get the food to the Help Center in time for Thanksgiving.”
It was planned to deliver the food to the Help Center last Friday and today, in time to be distributed before Thanksgiving Day.
