Taking hold of our opportunity

Here it is, 2018, a brand new year, and we are in resolution season. We have just graduated from Thanksgiving season, Christmas season, and New Year season. Some people will make resolutions, and some won’t.
I would like to challenge you today to take hold of your opportunity. Taking a look back into the Christmas story, we find a seemingly insignificant character in the grand scheme of the story. In the book of Luke, Chapter 2, a man named Simeon is mentioned in verse 25. It was told to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. He had that chance as an old man, and in verse 28, Luke describes the encounter with Simeon taking the baby Jesus in his arms and holding him.
Simeon took hold of his opportunity. He had one chance in his lifetime to grasp his opportunity. He held in his arms the very one who spoke the world into existence. He stroked the infant hands that would later be pierced for his sins. He cupped the feet that would hold the weight of a beam designed for himself.
Simeon became careless and reckless with popularity. He became indifferent with politics. He ignored the whispers and forged through the fear. He held his opportunity.
So I say, keep your resolutions, start this and quit that. But I challenge you this year, and right now, to take hold of the greatest opportunity known to man. Take hold of your opportunity to know Christ.
It’s time to move past “being” and start “being awesome.” Don’t miss your opportunity to be awesome. I would like to help you with this opportunity each and every Sunday morning at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., at Christpoint Church, on The Square, in Sparta.
Real people, living real lives, serving a real God.
