Sparta has a real connection to the team from Clarksville that will be representing Tennessee in the Southwest Regional Little League World Series Championship that will be played in North Carolina, July 18-22. That connection is Cara Sims Miller.
Miller was a standout player for the Warriorette basketball team during the 1992 – 1995 seasons. Miller is the daughter of Carl and Patsy Sims, of Sparta. Cara’s son, Drew, is a standout player at 11 years old, playing in the 12-year-old division. The team from Clarksville will now be Team Tennessee. They had to come through the losers bracket to win the opportunity to represent Tennessee. Drew Miller commented on the games,
“We got in a hole after our first loss, but we just took it one inning at a time and fought our way back. We are a lot younger than the teams we are playing, but, if we play our best, we can beat them. We got it rolling and got to the championship game against South Jefferson. We got up quickly on them the first game which sort of stunned them when we won 16 to 3. The last game they were ready for us, and it was a battle to the end. They are a great team. We’re excited about playing as Team Tennessee in North Carolina.”
The Sparta connection continues to have an impact at all levels of play in sports.
