The Green Nightmare and more scary thoughts

The Right Stuff – By Donald Holman
One wonders, have any one of these politicians endorsing the “Green Nightmare” actually read it? And if so, why are they endorsing it? This thing reads like some communist plot hatched by poorly educated school children. For example, take this little program that says to aid Democracy only “frontline and vulnerable communities and workers” will “plan, run, and administer” the programs of the New Green Nightmare. Really? That aids Democracy? A reasonable person would think if you wanted to aid Democracy, you would allow free and fair elections, not require membership in some group of people whose very description is so vague that it would allow the government to allow some candidates while barring others.
This plan also calls for the outright end of oil and gas industries, 136-billion-dollar industries employing 10 million people. And I am sure you have heard of the guaranteed employment for those that would like to work and financial assistance for those that do not? Can any of us believe a politician that thinks they have any serious chance of winning the presidential election would sign on to this piece of communist garbage?
This plan demonizes carbon-based energy sources – not a surprise for something billing itself as “green.” But think about it. Has cheap energy been a terrible thing for the American people?
Many of us had parents or grandparents, aunts or uncles, that went north in the early years of the Great Depression seeking jobs -jobs in the newfangled “auto” factories. The early years of automobiles were all about the rich having a new plaything. It was the cheap cars of Henry Ford that revolutionized the lives of Americans. My great-grandmother grew up in White County and had never traveled over 70 miles from here in her entire life! How many people these days could say such a thing? Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with White County. But there is nothing wrong with getting out and seeing a bit more of the world either. Sometimes it makes you glad and more appreciative of the good things you have at home to travel around a bit.
So far from being the scourge of middle-class Americans, cheap energy and cheap automobiles enriched our lives and expanded our horizons. And over the past five decades or so, airplane travel has also been within the reach of the middle class of America. What could be more exciting and inspiring than getting on a plan, traveling for a few hours, and stepping off in a completely different place in the world? Well, you can forget that in the Green Nightmare. Plane and unnecessary care travel will be eliminated. How much you want to bet the new “leaders” will fly and travel unlimitedly as a necessity?
In the New Green Nightmare, all the things we have grown accustomed to will be eliminated for most “normal” folks. In the name of greening the planet, what we are really seeing is a totalitarian takeover of our entire government. And if you have watched the environmental movement carefully, this is hardly the first time you have seen this sort of trend within it. While America might never adopt such strict measures outright, tell them they are saving the world, and away they will go. (Or at least so these people hope.) By the time they figure differently, the control of the country will be in the hands of our new green overlords.
And if such a thing were to start, who would we turn to for help? We have seen the corruption of our justice system go unchecked. This week, we will get a new attorney general, William Barr. He will be this administration’s last chance to reform the justice department prior to the next election. I would like to tell you I am optimistic. But why lie to you? If Barr is truly going to be a reformer, we should start seeing signs of it right away. There is so much wrong in that department, I wouldn’t have the slightest idea where to start. On the other hand, it’s not my job. Watch closely what he does over the next few months. There are a lot of changes that need to be made, but a lot of the people that need to go have powerful friends and allies inside this corrupt system we have. Let us hope and pray Bob Barr has the same steel in his spine Donald Trump does.
Finally, let’s look a little closer to home. Our new governor, Bill Lee, ran as a conservative. But his administration has appointed to powerful positions some of the nastiest, most inside, long-term political hacks Nashville has to offer. Why would a person wanting to govern conservatively be so willing to give power to folks that are not? It does not look good, it does not smell good, and I don’t think the end result will be good. Excuses are being made about the fast pace needed to get things up and running in the new administration. But a lot of this sounds like our former president, Barack Obama, who liked to declare mistakes were made, yet nobody made them? So, if a bunch of these people were hired without the new governor’s full understanding of what was going on, who is he going to fire to make sure this doesn’t happen again? I am not optimistic, but stay tuned. Maybe heads will roll; maybe things will change. You can bet I’ll let you know!
