Two speeches to last a lifetime

The Right Stuff – By Donald Holman

Once again, we have completed a week jam-packed with news. And once again, I will attempt to cover one or two pieces of it as time and space allows. We are truly living in momentous times -times that may well determine the course of our nation for a generation or more to come.

The leftists of the 70s and 80s depended on the courts to deliver for them decisions the nation, expressing their will in the voting booth, never would. The most obvious one was that of abortion, in 1973, that discovered a hither – to unknown – “right” in the Constitution that a woman has the right to an abortion if she wants one. But prayer in schools and a host of other decisions attempted to banish Christians from the public square. Also notable, this effort was only made for Christians; other religions were left unmolested. This began a quest by Christians and conservatives to elect presidents that would select conservatives for the Supreme Court. But, for a variety of reasons, many otherwise conservative presidents did not appoint conservative judges, and, when they did, seldom did a rigorous check into whether their judicial philosophy was truly conservative, resulting in disappointments from otherwise dependable presidents, such as Reagan and Bush.

But with the election of Donald Trump, who had published ahead of his election, his choice of nominees for the Supreme Court, the conservatives finally had a president that would vigorously pursue nominating and getting confirmed judges that were conservative and would make conservative rulings. And at last, enough vacancies have occurred and enough conservatives appointed that we are finally on the brink of having a conservative majority on the Supreme Court. It is against this background that the current nomination fight erupts.

I will not attempt to pull quotes from Judge Kavanaugh’s speech because it was his heartfelt presentation that made the speech so impressive. Already, you can hear complaints from the left concerning his mentioning them as the chief authors of the charges against him. (As if Judge Kavanaugh were required to pretend blindness prior to his ascension to the court.) What surprised me (and I guess it shouldn’t have!) was the open contempt and disdain with which his speech was greeted by the mainstreamers. While even the leftist senators were clearly feeling chastened by Kavanaugh’s charges, mainstream and cable commentators were openly scornful and mocking. I cannot imagine why these people think it is to their advantage to denigrate and openly mock deeply held religious beliefs. Eighty three percent of Americans identify themselves as Christians. How do these people think their mockery affects them? And remind me again why ANY Christians would ever vote for a group that so openly feels contempt for them and their deeply held beliefs?

Just one more on this subject and we’ll move on. For Mrs. Ford, I cannot feel the sympathy others seem to or pretend to. Let me just list a few things. We were told she did not fly and needed three days to drive cross-country to the hearing. Yet, under cross-examination, it was clear she flew pretty often. She has a PhD but is incapable of doing a search online and discovering the committee for investigating judicial nominees has a research group that can conduct confidential investigations? She doesn’t know the meaning of exculpatory? She scrubbed her Facebook postings? And finally, many have said that she had no reason to lie – no advantage to be gained. But people all the time do and say things that are not to their advantage, and, many times, do things that are even bad for themselves and their image. In her part of California, though, one is either a leftist or gone. And she will reign locally (in an extremely high rent district, even for California) as the hero that tried to prevent Judge Kavanaugh from reaching the Supreme Court. And that will last far longer than the hate mail and threats.

IF you missed President Trump’s speech to the United Nations, it is well worth the time to listen to it. I really believe President Trump is at his best when he represents us to the world. Can you imagine the Bush-loving one-world-order types cringe when they hear this?

“We believe that when nations respect the rights of their neighbors and defend the interests of their people, they can better work together to secure the blessings of safety, prosperity, and peace. Each of us here today is the emissary of a distinct culture, a rich history, and a people bound together by ties of memory, tradition, and the values that make our homelands like nowhere else on Earth. That is why America will always choose independence and cooperation over global governance, control, and domination.

I honor the right of every nation in this room to pursue its own customs, beliefs, and traditions. The United States will not tell you how to live or work or worship. We only ask that you honor our sovereignty in return.

From Warsaw to Brussels, to Tokyo to Singapore, it has been my highest honor to represent the United States abroad. I have forged close relationships and friendships and strong partnerships with the leaders of many nations in this room, and our approach has already yielded incredible change.”

It must drive the one-world-order lovers crazy when President Trump says we are all more effective when nations pursue their own best interests and act as agents focused on making trades and deals to their own advantages. How long have we been told we should aspire to be a “citizen of the World?” As Trump points out in this speech, that there is some mighty fine horse manure!

Do we remember when President Obama spoke of his outreach to the Moslem world? Yet it was for President Trump that 53 Gulf State leaders were assembled and the following occurred:

“In the Middle East, our new approach is also yielding great strides and very historic change. Following my trip to Saudi Arabia last year, the Gulf countries opened a new center to target terrorist financing. They are enforcing new sanctions, working with us to identify and track terrorist networks, and taking more responsibility for fighting terrorism and extremism in their own region. The UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar have pledged billions of dollars to aid the people of Syria and Yemen. And they are pursuing multiple avenues to ending Yemen’s horrible, horrific civil war. Ultimately, it is up to the nations of the region to decide what kind of future they want for themselves and their children.

For that reason, the United States is working with the Gulf Cooperation Council, Jordan, and Egypt to establish a regional strategic alliance so that Middle Eastern nations can advance prosperity, stability, and security across their home region.”

And again President Trump underlines our willingness to reject one-world government agencies that have become corrupt:

“Our ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, laid out a clear agenda for reform, but despite reported and repeated warnings, no action at all was taken. So the United States took the only responsible course: We withdrew from the Human Rights Council, and we will not return until real reform is enacted.

For similar reasons, the United States will provide no support in recognition to the International Criminal Court. As far as America is concerned, the ICC has no jurisdiction, no legitimacy, and no authority. The ICC claims near-universal jurisdiction over the citizens of every country, violating all principles of justice, fairness, and due process. We will never surrender America’s sovereignty to an unelected, unaccountable, global bureaucracy.

America is governed by Americans. We reject the ideology of globalism, and we embrace the doctrine of patriotism.”

Look again at the underlined part. For years, leftists have attempted to undermine love of country. They called patriotism, nationalism and insisted it led to wars. Yet President Trump calls to the world that there is nothing wrong with loving your country, as Americans love their country! Can you not see why the leftists hate him so?

Time and space runs away with me, and so I must close. I would sum up in this way. This past week, we have seen more clearly than ever before the contempt with which many in our own country treat our most cherished values. When one of our countrymen points out his attempts to lead an exemplary life of service to his God and country, the Democrats sit on the sidelines and jeer and seek to destroy. I would not only ask you why would you ever again vote for a party that disdains all we stand for, but I would further ask you, “What do ‘Republicans’ like Jeff Flake with backbones of spaghetti do to help our cause?”

Closer to home do we remember that while President Trump was attempting to do away with Obamacare, one Senator Lamar Alexander was huddling with Senator Patty Murray to “save” it? Has he done a single thing to help our conservative cause? Did you know he has a 48 percent rating for his conservative voting record? We need to not only vote Republican but also vote conservative. If we want to take our country back from the one-world governance types it is not enough to vote for R.I.N.O. (Republican In Name Only) type Republicans. We must vote in conservatives with a backbone that know how to stand and have the will to fight. Will we be the generation that lets freedom slip from our nation’s grasp? We have been blessed with a leader that has the will and the brains to fight. Will we send him reinforcements or another RINO for him to watch his back around in the shape of one Bob Corker? There are only a few days left to register for this year’s election. Will you do your duty this year? You don’t have to put a sign in the yard or a sticker on the car. You just quietly go and vote for God and country. And I hope you will.
