At approximately 2:00 pm on March 1, White County E-911 received an emergency call involving a residential structure fire on Oak Grove Rd, Walling. Upon arrival, firefighters found the structure partially involved, with smoke venting from the roof area of the house, as well there was additional fire hazards around the home. Additional manpower was requested by the Incident Commander, therefore firefighters were dispatched from Doyle, Mt. According to Incident Command, the structure fire reportedly started from the kitchen area of the home and made its way into the attic creating a potentially dangerous situation. Thanks to the professional efforts from volunteer firefighters, they were able to set up operations quickly and make entry into the residence. The fire was able to be knocked down swiftly and firefighting crews worked quickly to evacuate the smoke from the interior of the home as well as the attic area. At the time of this posting, volunteer firefighters were still on the scene checking the home for any potential “hotspots” or potential “flare ups”. The Sparta Fire Department was dispatched to bring Support Unit 410 to aid staff on the scene. Members with the Sparta/White County Rescue Squad, White County Sheriff Deputies, and White County EMS were all on the scene and provided assistance as needed.
