The Van Buren County High School teams finally got to play in the friendly confines of their own gym Monday night and treated their fans to a sweep of visiting Monterey.
After playing their first three games on the road, the Eagles and Eaglettes welcomed Monterey to Spencer, but didn’t let their guests leave with wins in either contest.
The Eaglettes scored the first 17 points of the game and never looked back on the way to the 68-39 win. Lakelyn Bouldin led the way with 22 points. Also in double figures were Carly Cole (12) and Mallory Christian (11).
The Eagles answered every run by the Wildcats and finished with the 70-55 win, which improved them to 2-2 on the season. Four Van Buren County players reached double figures led by the 19 points of Drew Roberts. Caden Mills added 16, Sawyer Shockley 11 and Jared Binkley 10.
The Van Buren teams hit the road Tuesday for their District 6A opener at Whitwell. They will then host another district foe, Sale Creek, Friday for homecoming.
See Thursday’s print edition for full details of all the games.
