Van Buren sweeps Monterey at home on Tuesday night

The Van Buren County High School Eagles and Eaglettes both picked up wins, on Tuesday night, when they took on the Monterey High School Wildcats and Lady Wildcats.
The Eaglettes started the night off picking up a 54-43 win over the Lady Wildcats. In the nightcap, the Eagles outscored the Wildcats 44-38 in the second half to pick up a 76-71 victory.
In the first game of the night, the Eaglettes fell behind early, trailing the Lady Wildcats 13-11 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Eaglettes’ defense would pick up as they outscored Monterey 15-9 in the quarter and led 26-22 heading into the locker room.
In the second half, the Eaglettes outscored the Lady Wildcats 11-10 and led 37-32 heading into the final quarter of play.
In the last quarter of the game, the Eaglettes outscored Monterey 17-11 and secured the win by a final score of 54-43.
Emma Scoggins led the Eaglettes with 13 points, and Mallory Christian chipped in 12 points. Hannah Sullivan also scored in double figures finishing with 10 points. Kinzie Johnson added 7 points, and Mika Davis tallied 6 points. Lily Fredricks ended the night with 4 points, and Sydney Bouldin rounded out the scoring finishing with 2 points.
In the second game of the night, the Eagles fell behind early trailing the Wildcats 19-13 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Eagles outscored the Wildcats 19-14, but still trailed heading into the locker room 33-32.
After halftime, both teams picked up their scoring as the Eagles outscored the Wildcats 24-22 in the third quarter and led 56-55 heading into the fourth quarter.
In the final quarter of play, the Eagles outscored the Wildcats 20-16 and won by a final score of 76-71.
Caden Mills led all scorers with 36 points, and Bo Walker chipped in 19 points. Sawyer Shockley added 7 points, and Jared Binkley finished with 4 points. Axel Rodriguez and Dillion Young both finished with 3 points, and Austin Miller tallied 2 points. Jacob Crain and Logan Young both rounded out the Eagles’ scoring with 1 point each.
Both teams will stay at home, on Dec. 1, when they take on Bledsoe County High School. The Eaglettes will get things started at 6 p.m., with the Eagles to follow.
