Velma Ruth Davis Simmons

Velma Ruth Davis Simmons, 91, of the DeRossett community of White County, passed away April 14, 2018, at her residence.
Mrs. Simmons was born Oct. 16, 1926, in Sparta, to Matthew Rhar Davis and Mary Racheal McCain Davis.
She was a homemaker. Mrs. Simmons was a member of Smith’s Chapel Free Will Baptist Church and enjoyed quilting, gardening, and knitting.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Rolis Simmons; sons, James R. Simmons, Paul Andrew Simmons; granddaughter, Brittany Cunningham; sister, Linda Blaylock; and brothers, Harold Davis and Woodrow Davis
Survivors include her daughters, Billie Ruth (John) Paige, Treva Faye (Wayne) Jackson; sons, John Thomas Simmons, Arthur Lee “Ott” Simmons, Jason Harold Simmons; 12 grandchildren. Monica, Angela, Rita, Mark, Troy, Jody, Tracy, Valerie, William “Bub,” Ally, Jocelyn, Kelysie; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and one on the way; sister, Inez Waymire; and brothers, Gene Davis, Jerry Davis, and Carl Davis.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m., April 18, 2018, at Hunter Funeral Home, with burial in Smith’s Chapel Cemetery. Joe Roysden will officiate. The family will receive friends after 5 p.m., April 17, at the funeral home
Jason Simmons, Christopher Dunn, Zachary Swigart, William Jackson, David Webb, Roy Brady, and Stacy Brady will serve as pallbearers.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Hunter Funeral Home.
