Sparta’s hometown newspaper, which has been in business more than 150 years, is now being led by White County native Cristie Roberts Vinson.

Vinson, who has worked at The Expositor for 28 years, was recently named to the position of publisher. Vinson takes the helm after the death of Jim Shanks, who began his tenure as publisher at The Expositor, in January 2007. Shanks passed away in August of this year.

Vinson, a life-long resident of White County who attended Tennessee Tech, has worked with four publishers throughout her years in the newspaper business. She began her career in the sales department and was later promoted to advertising manager. Prior to being named publisher, Vinson held the position of general manager.

“I am looking forward to my new position as publisher and am excited about the future possibilities for our organization,” said Vinson. “We are a team at The Expositor, and we will continue to serve our community with pride and integrity.”

Vinson is the daughter of the late Sandy Prater Knowles, Buddy Knowles, and the late Clay Roberts. She is married to Greg Vinson, and they are the parents of four children: Nickolas Hatmaker, Brooklyn Vinson, Erika Vinson, and Gregory Vinson.
