WCHS golf teams fall in regular season finale

The White County High School golf team played their final regular season match Monday at Riverwatch against visiting District 6AAA foe, Warren County.
Both the Pioneers and Lady Pioneers have been at or near the top of the district this season and showed why Monday in the finale.
The Pioneers had four players shoot in the 70’s as they took the 26-stroke victory over the Warriors. Warren County carded a 303 for the team win. They were led by the 72 from Myers.
The Warriors shot a 329 on the day. The low man for the Warriors on the afternoon was sophomore Cameron Bruce who finished with a 77. Zach Payne added an 80. Haden Welch and Tommy Sparkman each shot 86’s to round out the counting scores. K.J. Enlow played also shooting a 99.
The Warriorettes came up 14 strokes short against the Lady Pioneers in the girls’ match. Warren County’s Powell sisters shot a 78 and 82 for the team total of 160.
The WCHS girls finished with a 174 led by Shelby Johnson, who shot an 81. Melaney Payne added a 93 and Kate Ferguson shot a 102.
In the boys’ junior varsity match, the Warriors were defeated 169-201. Chris Morton shot a 99 and Aaron Vinson followed with a 102 for WCHS.
With the regular season in the books, it’s on to postseason play for the WCHS linksters. The teams of District 6AAA will converge on Riverwatch Golf Course on Thursday for the tournament. All girls will advance to the region tournament. The top three boys’ teams and the top five individuals not on those teams will advance to the region.
The first tee time is 9 a.m. in the District 6AAA championship.
