March 12 – WCHS soccer team moves to 2 – 0
The White County High School soccer team moved to two wins on the season as they defeated Smith County 4 -1, on March 12.
Will Cheek continued his offensive skills scoring two goals. Dawson Stewart and Drake Williamson added a goal each. Assisting in the goals were Will Cheek and Issac Miller. Tyler Seals had five saves to secure the win.
Coach Scott Wilson stated, “It’s great to start the season off with two quality wins. The rain wiped out most of our preseason scrimmages, so I really wasn’t sure what to expect. Monday night, our offense really came out strong and dominated the game. I was pleased to see our resolve last night after Smith County tied the game at one. We quickly responded with our second goal. The second half, Smith County began to commit more players forward in an attempt to score and it gave us some great counter opportunities. We have played well at times in each game, but we still have a long way to go if we want to compete in our district this year. We have a big test tomorrow [March 14] at Rhea County. It is our first district game, and it’s on their artificial turf field, which will take some time for us to acclimate to. It’s also our third game in four days, so my concern is will we have our legs after the long bus ride over the mountain?”
