The Warriorette soccer team played host to Coffee County Thursday in District 6AAA action with good news and bad news coming from the game.
The good news is they didn’t lose to the Lady Raiders. However, the bad news is they didn’t defeat the visitors either. For the second time in as many games and the third time overall this season, the game ended in a tie. The tie left the Warriorettes still in search of their first district win of the season having lost three of their league games and finishing tied in the other two.
The two teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half of the contest. Warriorette goalkeeper, Reanna Young, continued her stellar play keeping the Lady Raiders scoreless in the first 40 minutes of action.
That trend continued through the first 10 minutes of the second half. Coffee County broke the tie with a goal 13 minutes into the second period. Three minutes later, Shelby O’Neal beat the defense for the lone Warriorette goal of the contest. The Lady Raiders had a couple of chances in the final five minutes of the contest, but Young blocked a direct kick and a corner kick in the closing minutes to preserve the tie.
The tie was the second of the week for Coffee County in league action having tied Cumberland County on Tuesday. The Warriorettes and Lady Jets also tied making for a lot of parity in the district.
The Warriorettes are now 1-4-3 overall and 0-3-2 in the district. They travel to Cumberland County today for a 5 p.m. league contest. On Thursday, they step outside of the district to take on Stone Memorial.
