Twenty-four White County High School students participated in the Upper Cumberland Student Job Fair, on March 1, 2018, at Leslie Town Centre, in Cookeville.

Seniors from Clay, Jackson, Overton, Putnam, and White counties all participated in this event. There were 36 companies and organizations present, with employers actually interviewing the students. In the fall, all WCHS seniors participated in “Interview Boot Camp.” This was led by senior Capstone teachers and academic/career coach Terri Douglas. The seniors worked on items such as: writing a cover letter and resume,’ completing job applications, interviewing skills, etc.

In February, those students who expressed interest in attending the job fair, once again, came together and worked with Douglas and Jacqueline Will, WCHS Business teacher, to improve their resumes even more. During the actual fair, students were able to interview with multiple employers. The main purpose of the event was for the students to experience what an actual job interview might be like.

The students appreciated this opportunity and for many of them, this was their very first “real” job interview. Although most of the participating employers were not looking to hire employees, many students were offered the opportunity for summer employment.

Upon returning from the event, the students wrote thank you notes to each of the employers with whom they interviewed. The students wanted to thank them for participating in the event and to show their appreciation for the advice they received.
