WCMS baseball falls to Algood

The White County Middle School baseball team came to close to picking up their fifth win of the season, on Thursday night. However, the Warriors were on the wrong endof a 3-2 defeat to Algood. The game was tied at two, with Algood batting in the bottom of the fifth when they singled on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring one run.
The pitching for both sides was strong, as they combined to strike out five hitters. Algood would strike first, scoring one run to take an early 1-0 lead. Neither team could get much going until the top of the fifth inning when the Warriors would strike for two runs.
D.J. Paul would get the rally going with a one-out single. Grant Miller would follow that up when he reached on an error that would score Paul and tie the game up at 1-1. Jack Guy would then come up with two out. Guy would take a 2-1 pitch to centerfield for a triple that would score Miller and give the Warriors the 2-1 lead.
However, Algood would answer with two runs in the bottom of the inning to pick up the 3-2 win.
Miller got the start for the Warriors. He would throw all five innings, giving up six hits, three runs, and striking out three.
Miller and Logan Brown would lead the Warriors at the plate, collecting two hits each. Paul, Guy, and Connor Brewington would add a hit apiece for the Warriors.
With the loss, the Warriors’ record moves to 4-9 on the season. The Warriors will return to action with four games in three days. On Monday, the Warriors will travel to Shelbyville to take on Harris Middle School. The Warriors will then return to Shelbyville, on Tuesday, to take on Harris again. The Warriors will close out their regular season, on Wednesday night, when they take on Tullahoma Middle School in a doubleheader.
