WCMS softball loses two close games to Warren County

The White County Middle School softball team suffered two losses at the hands of Warren County this week. On Monday night, the Warriorettes suffered a heartbreaking loss to the Lady Pioneers. Warren County would score two runs in their final at-bat to win the game 2-1. On Tuesday night, Warren County would score three runs in the first two innings to take a 3-0 lead. The Lady Pioneers would score a single run in the fourth and fifth innings to win by a final score of 5-0.
On Monday night, a walk-off left the Warriorettes on the wrong end of a 2-1 defeat to Warren County Middle School. The game was tied at one with Warren County batting in the bottom of the fifth when they hit a double scoring one run to win the game.
The pitching was strong on both sides, as Warren County pitchers struck out 10, and Ashlyn Phillips finished the game with seven strikeouts.
The Warriorettes would open up the game with a run in the first inning. Phillips doubled on a 1-2 count, which would score Ashlyn Rohlander to give the Warriorettes the early 1-0 lead. However, Warren County would score two runs late to pick up the 2-1 win.
Phillips would get the start in the circle for the Warriorettes. She goes the distance, giving up five hits two runs, and striking out five.
Philips, Abby Finan, and Taylor Roberts would all have a hit to lead the Warriorettes.
On Tuesday night, the Warriorettes would watch the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 5-1 loss to Warren County.
Warren County fired up the offense in the first inning when they score a single run to take an early 1-0 lead. Warren County would add two more runs in the second inning and a single run in the fourth and fifth innings.
The Warriorettes would score their only run of the game in the fifth inning when Roberts doubled on the first pitch she saw. Roberts hit would score Rohlander to cut the lead to 5-1. However, Warren County would end the threat on the next batter to win the game 5-1.
Phillips got the start for the Warriorettes. She went five innings, allowing five runs on eight hits and striking out four.
The Warriorettes would finish the game with three hits. Rohlander, Roberts, and Addison Abell finished with one hit each.
With the losses, the Warriorettes move to 3-6 on the season. The Warriorettes were back in action, on Wednesday, but the results from that game were unavailable at press time. The Warriorettes will also take the field, on Thursday, when they host Harris Middle School for two varsity games at the White County High School field. The first game will begin at 5 p.m., with the second to follow after the first game.
