The White County Middle School volleyball team traveled to Jackson County Middle School Saturday to compete in the Spiking Summer Classic, a playday for middle school teams.
The Warriorettes of Coach Leah Wilhite went undefeated on the day taking the top spot in the seven-team tournament. In pool play, they picked up wins over Avery Trace 2, Smith County, Cornerstone 2 and Jackson County. They, in fact, lost only one game in the four matches.
WCMS received a bye in the opening round of the single elimination tournament. In the semifinals, the Warriorettes recorded their second victory of the day over Smith County advancing to the championship game. Their opponent in the finals was Cornerstone 1, over which WCMS took the title in two straight games.
Three Warriorettes, Amber Hudgens, Paige Winningham and Kelsey Roberts, were named to the All Tournament team.
Coach Wilhite had this to say of her team’s play, “It was an exciting day for our volleyball team. The girls played well and gave a great effort every time they took the floor. I’m looking forward to the season.”
Ironically, the WCMS volleyballers open the season against Cornerstone in Baxter on August 18th.
