WCMS Warriorette softball takes two from Tullahoma on March 18

White County Middle School Warriorettes took the diamond, on March 18, to compete in a scheduled doubleheader with the Tullahoma Wildcats.
In the first inning, the Warriorettes could not find the strike zone and walked four batters to allow Tullahoma to take the early lead 1-0. The bottom of the first inning started with a bang as Taylor Roberts and Abigayle Finan went back-to-back doubles, with Roberts scoring on the play. Maddie Rust singles to move Finan to third, and then Finan scores on a passed ball by the catcher for the Wildcats. Score at the end of one was Sparta 2 and Tullahoma 1.
The second inning saw Ashlyn Rohlander single to send Kiley Moore across the plate after she was hit by a pitch. Sparta up 3-1 after two innings. Sparta’s defense played well, with a double play to shut down the Wildcats in their half of the third. The bottom half of the third inning started with a double by Finan. Abby Guy and Savannah Barr both walk and load the bases. Moore walks and forces in Finan from third. Gracie McCurry then singles, clearing the bases for the Warriorettes. Rohlander then doubles, scoring McCurry from second.
The Wildcat offense would push three runs across in the top of the fourth inning, The score midway through the fourth is Sparta 9 and Tullahoma 4.
The bottom half of the inning saw Guy start off with a two bagger and score on another back-to-back double by Rust. Sydney Smiley singles but was left on base as the inning ended. Defense ends the game with a final score of 10 to 4 in favor of the Warriorettes.
Kamryn McLatchy was the winning pitcher going five innings and allowing four runs on three hits and struck out four batters.
In game two, the WCMS Warriorettes took the lead late in the game in a 7-3 victory over Tullahoma Middle School Wildcats, on March 18. The game was tied at three, with the WCMS Warriorettes batting in the top of the fourth when Maddie Rust singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
The Warriorettes got things started in the first inning when Finan doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. The Warriorettes tallied three runs in the fifth inning. The WCMS Warriorettes’ offense in the inning was led by Roberts, Finan, and Guy, all knocking in runs in the inning.
Barr was the winning pitcher for White County Middle School Warriorettes. She allowed two hits and three runs over five innings, striking out five. Zaylan Spinner took the loss for Tullahoma Middle School Wildcats. She lasted five innings, allowing 14 hits and seven runs, while striking out four and walking zero.
WCMS Warriorettes had 14 hits in the game. Finan, Guy, Roberts, Sydney Smiley, and Rust each collected multiple hits for Warriorettes. Finan led White County Middle School Warriorettes with three hits in four at bats.
