When the White County Middle School eighth grade Warriorettes’ basketball team was getting ready for the season this year, they were coming up with goals that they wanted to accomplish. The first goal they came up with was to win the CTC regular season and tournament titles. They achieved that goal by going undefeated in CTC play and winning the championship game in the CTC tournament.

Their second goal was to win the 2019 Tennessee Middle School Athletic Association Class AAA Girls Basketball State Tournament. On Thursday night, the WCMS Warriorettes moved one step closer to accomplishing that goal as they picked up a win over Blackman Middle School to move into the final four of the state tournament.

The Warriorettes got the night going and led at the end of the first quarter 12-10. In the second quarter, the Warriorettes added to their lead and outscored Blackman 11-9 in the quarter and led 23-19 heading into the locker room.

After halftime, the Warriorettes used their defense to add to their lead as they held Blackman to six points in the quarter and scored 14 points to lead 37-25 heading into the fourth quarter. In the final quarter of play, the Warriorettes outscored Blackman 14-10 in the quarter to pick up the 51-35 win and secured their spot in the final four of the state tournament.

Nia Powers led the Warriorettes with 25 points. Celeste Reed added 12 points. Lexie Golden and Karley Gentry chipped in four points. Rylee Savage, Kalie McDonald, and Laney Copeland rounded out the scoring with two points each.

The Warriorettes will return to action, at 7:15 p.m., Feb. 8, at Stewarts Creek High School, as they try to earn their spot in the championship game of the state tournament. If the Warriorettes win, they will play at 4 p.m., Feb. 9, at Stewarts Creek High School for the championship. However, if the Warriorettes lose, on Friday night, they will play at 4 p.m., Feb. 9, at Stewarts Creek Middle School, in the consolation game.
