Who will stand for America?

The Right Stuff – By Donald Holman
Folks, over the last few weeks, I have attempted to explain and present what I see as corruption in the very heart of our government and its institutions. I have pointed out repeatedly where people in high positions in our government have used the power of the government to attempt to change the course of elections and undermine our democracy.
And let me say this at the very outset. This is not a Democrat versus Republican situation we find ourselves in. When Republican Senator John McCain sends a staffer overseas to get a copy of the Steele dossier to give to the FBI, he is using the power of our government to try and strike out at a duly elected president of his own party just to settle a personal score. And many other Republican senators and congressmen have refused to stand up to corruption because they loved their positions and their paychecks and their power more than they loved our country!
We are facing an unprecedented attempt by unelected and unaccountable people within the government to steal power from we the people. Did you notice through all the scandals of the last administration, not a single government official went to jail or was even charged with a crime? I believe our previous president and the Washington D.C. power structure made a very corrupt bargain among themselves. The elected officials conspired with the unelected ones to cover each other and preserve their own power bases, regardless of elections. When FBI agent Peter Strzok said he could “smell” the Trump supporters at Walmart, he would have said the same thing had it been a different president of a different party opposing the power of these bureaucrats. Pure contempt for the voters and their voice. Yet, he and his mistress remain in the FBI to this very day!
And we have generations of younger voters that were never taught of the bloody footprints at Valley Forge or the death-defying charges on remote islands in World War II and the simple patriotism and love of country that led those of our generation and previous generations to risk and even give their lives in the noble pursuit of saving and keeping the land they loved – for us.
If you are a member of the baby boomer generation as am I; I believe it is largely our fault. We have allowed college professors and classroom teachers across our land to undermine all that we hold dear. While we were busy living our lives and doing our best to provide the creature comforts to the next generation, we took our eye off the welfare of our nation. Members of the next generation in my own family have said to me, “You know, this whole idea of “loving our country” is kind of silly. Our being American was just an accident of nature, we could just as well have been born in any other country, so why should we “love” the USA?”
So, what are we to do now? I believe we stand at the edge of either losing everything our forefathers fought and died to give us or awakening to the dangers our country faces. And they come not from without but within. As I write these columns over the next few months, I hope you now realize where I come from on these issues. I am not too “cool” to love my country. I am not too “cool” to appreciate the sacrifices made so that we might have a country where we can have these discussions in newspapers, instead of hidden in a corner somewhere, with guards posted on lookout for “government agents.” I hope that you will join me in this honest and open discussion of what we do now. And most importantly, I hope that together we can save our nation and its future for our kids and grandkids, even if we sometimes do it over their protests.
Thanks for staying with me over these last few weeks as I have tried to set the foundation for future columns. And may Old Glory always fly over the land of the free and the home of the brave!
