William Brown “Billy” Thompson

William Brown “Billy” Thompson, 79, of Sparta, passed away March 21, 2019, at his residence.

Mr. Thompson was born Jan. 17, 1940, in White County, to Herbert Brown Thompson and Elizabeth Cole Thompson.

He was a retired truck driver, with a career that began with Roadway and lasted 40 years until his retirement with Yellow Freight. He was a member of the Teamsters Union.

Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Martha Thompson; and his sister, Jane Bohannon.

Survivors include two sons, Patrick Thompson, of Sparta, Joey Thompson, of Detroit, Michigan; daughter, Abby Sutton and husband Barry, of Atlanta, Georgia; four grandchildren, Cody Smiley, McKenzie Anderson, Paige Ait Salah, Cassidy Thompson; great-grandchild, Leiland Smiley; sister, Mary Jones and husband Jack, of Sparta; nephews, Todd Bohannon, Jayson Bumbalough, both of Sparta; and niece, Mary Beth Elrod, of Sparta.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m., March 24, 2019, at Hunter Funeral Home, with burial in Plainview Cemetery in the Cassville community.  The family will receive friends 4-8 p.m., March 23, at the funeral home.   Nathan Hawkins will officiate.

Pat Thompson, Todd Bohannon, Jayson Bumbalough, Mary Beth Elrod, Jason Gunnels, and Rusty Dodson will serve as pallbearers.

Hunter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

    May God Bless Mr Billy and his entire family. My heartfelt condolences for the loss of your loved one cannot be expressed in words. I hope that your grief will be exchanged for joy, and for the faith in the promise of eternal life.
