On Oct. 6, 2018, Sparta Police Department was contacted by a woman reporting that she had been followed around the Walmart store by a Hispanic male who was videoing her with his cell phone.

Sparta Police Chief Jeff Guth explained that other shoppers witnessed the incident and tried to intervene.

“Some of the other shoppers had said something to him,” said Guth. “We got there, and there was nobody there.”

Guth stated the victim informed the responding officer that when she realized what the man was doing, she contacted store management. When they returned with her to try to find the alleged perpetrator, it was determined that he had already left the store. Management stayed with the woman and walked her to her car.

Guth said that, according to Walmart management, this is not the first report from customers complaining about a Hispanic male taking videos of them throughout the store.

“We have been patrolling through there,” said Guth. “We haven’t had any other reports since then.”

If anyone has any information about this incident, contact Sparta Police Department at (931) 836-3734.
