The Sparta Youth football teams returned to action, on Aug. 18, when they traveled to DeKalb County. All three Warriors’ teams were in battle on the day, with the Warriors picking up wins in two of their three games.

The Pee Wee Warriors stayed undefeated on the season when they took down DeKalb County 27-13. Griffin Adams, who finished the day with three touchdowns, and Gabe Palmer, who finished the day with one touchdown, led the Warriors offensively. Defensively, Paul Dylan Bickford was an anchor for the Warriors as he finished with seven tackles. The Warriors take their 3-0 record to Livingston, at 4 p.m., on Saturday.

In the Junior Warrior game, the Warriors received the ball first. It looked like they had picked up a first down on third down, but a penalty negated it, and the Warriors turned the ball over on downs. The Warriors would hold DeKalb in their first series getting big tackles from Will Thurman and Tucker Pinion, which forced the Tigers to punt. The Tigers would pick up their first touchdown of the game in the rainstorm to make it 6-0.

The Warriors looked to tie the game on their next series when Pinion broke for a 42-yard run, but a fumble would give DeKalb County the ball. The Warriors’ defense would keep DeKalb County out for the rest of the quarter, and both teams would head into halftime, with the Warriors trailing DeKalb County 6-0.

In the third quarter, DeKalb would get the ball to start the quarter and slowly march it down the field, but their drive would stall on the five-yard line. The Warriors would take over and pick up one first down, but they would turn the ball over on downs at the end of the third quarter.

DeKalb County would put the final touches on the game late in the fourth quarter when they scored to make it 14-0. The Warriors were led in rushing by Pinion who finished with 12 carries for 70 yards. Will Thomas and Pinion led the team in tackles with five.

In the Senior game, the Warriors got the ball to start the game, and it didn’t take them long to strike. On the second play of the game, Kaden Blaylock went 55 yards for a Warrior touchdown. The Warriors would also get the two-point conversion when Xavier Gamble found Pinion to make it 8-0.

After holding DeKalb County in their first series, the Warriors would take over on their 15-yard line. On third down, Pinion would find a crease and would take off 81 yards for the touchdown and put the Warriors up 14-0. After an onside kick recovery, the Warriors would strike again, as Blaylock would break several tackles and took the ball 40 yards for the touchdown. Gamblin would run the ball in for the extra point to make it 21-0 at the end of the first quarter.

From there, the Warriors would add on one more score to make it 28-0, and that would be the final. The Warriors were led in rushing by Pinion. He finished the game with four rushes for 141 yards and two touchdowns. Blaylock finished the game with nine rushes for 115 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, Kelso Blaylock and Pinion had six tackles to lead the Warriors. The Senior Warriors will return to action, at 6 p.m., Aug. 25.
