What started out as an idea to give something back to a deserving mother, turned the tables on the staff at Subtle or Sassy salon.
“There were so many great tributes, it was very hard to decide on a winner – in fact, we expanded the award to include three runners-up,” said DaWanna Lopez, stylist at the salon.
The professional staff at Subtle of Sassy is completed with Cyndi Burchfield, owner and nail technician, and Sharon Lewis, massage therapist.

Ava E. Teeple, 84, of Sparta, passed away June 2, 2005.
Teeple was born Nov. 20, 1920, in Clay County, to James Porter and Nancy Bernette Hall Teeple.
She had been a homemaker.
Teeple was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Maggie Cantrell, Ruby Vinson; and two brothers, Carl Teeple, and Sherman Teeple.
Survivors include three brothers, Lewis F. Teeple, James O. Teeple, Ray Donald Teeple, all of Sparta; five sisters, Edwina Bilbrey, of Michigan, Leta Burns, of Sparta, Wilma Jean Bailey and husband Marion, of College Grove, Reba Nell Russay and husband Tom, and Mary Ruth Merritt and husband Harold, all of Florida.

Harlan Delter Tenpenny, 58, of Rock Island, passed away May 31, 2005.
Tenpenny was born Feb. 5, 1947, in Warren County, to Delter Lee Tenpenny and Myrtle Eva Sissom.
He had been a farmer and owner of D & H Equipment.
Tenpenny was preceded in death by his parents.

Matt Hargrove and Chris Howard have started a new adventure by opening H & H Barber Shop on Churchill Drive.
H & H is a traditional men’s barbershop and the team is happy to offer a clean environment for customers to enjoy fellowship and fun.
Hargrove, son of Emily Hargrove and the late Rev. Glenn Hargrove, is a 2002 graduate of White County High School. Matt graduated as a master barber and is a third generation professional. His grandfather began the family custom. His father worked as a barber for more than 42 years, and now Matt continues tradition.
